You're not the first to ask this. See the "The Pocket PC Thoughts Timezone" thread. There was no answer there, either.

If I had to guess, I'd suspect load testing. If the date had been 2001, I'd have guessed the Pocket PC 2002 announcement.

My theory was a Slashdotting, but there's been no evidence of that either on the new boards, I think.
