Default pda handhelds

I'm thinking about getting one.. though can anyone explain to me what the difference is between that and a desktop pc.. like are the operating systems the same or are they different? What's so different about them if they are?
Can they be conencted to a standard pc or even networked?

I'm sure there is more cons than pros compared to the pc, but would like some advice to it.. tia

They are very different.

The PocketPC OS is designed to at least somewhat mimic Windows - although it is impossible to match it.

They can be connected to a PC and you can access a network via your handheld - how depends on which model you get.

I would start by asking yourself what you **want** it to do. If you're only looking for a device that can handle addressbook information and calendar info, then I would look into a palm device. If you want/need mul

I would also go to bestbuy or compusa and just play with a couple of the different types. Look at the default programs and so on.
