Optimizing SEO & Duplicate Content for Posts & Forum

For the MediaThoughts Web People (or anyone else that knows what they're talking about)

I really like how you have your site set up that directs all your commenting to the forum, while posting the original blog post as the original topic. What I've been wondering about is how that affects your SEO. Doesn't Google ding you pretty heavily for having duplicate content, or is it just a non-issue that I shouldn't worry about?
