Well, as someone who wasn't around in the 50s, 60s, or 70s I've had all the flavors available to me pretty much since birth and I STILL only knew of Nacho Cheese and Cool Ranch.

I'm going to go looking for Taco flavored on my next trip to the store!

btw - I hate Cool Ranch so Nacho Cheese gets my vote.

I think there were plain Doritos, but I could be mistaken. I'm pretty sure Nacho Cheese replaced Taco Doritos (although I do seem to recall they were both available at one time).

If you really care, you might check out the Taquitos snack site.

Well, the preliminary indications are: original corn Doritos were introduced in 1966; Taco-flavored Doritos debuted in 1967; and Nacho Cheese-flavored appeared in 1972. This, according to an e-mail purportedly from Frito-Lay. (I still want to confirm this with F-L, since I don't trust that my girlfriend wouldn't have forged this just to win the bet... )

It would fit the timeline on the Frito Lay site.

Taco was the only flavor availble when I was a lad. Kind of like very salty Tostito's with paprika mixed in. I really didn't care for Dorito's until Nacho Cheese came availble in the midwest during my early teens.

I don't think I have ever seen Taco flavoured Doritos, the first I can remember is the Nacho Cheese and then Cool Ranch. And I'm old enough to remember 1972. 8O But not 1968.

I do wish that I was able to buy the Lime and Salt flavour of Fritos Corn Chips. The only place I have seen them is in Mexico and they really are the best. Guess I have to plan another vacation!

My god, I can't believe someone would spend that much time on snack food, They're just chips! (then again, that guy would probably look at me and say "They're just Organizers for gods sakes" )

Actually, joking aside, I found the site very interesting, thanks for posting it!

The reason I made the bet was that I remember Nacho Cheese Doritos from way-back-when in the old bags, and I don't remember seeing Taco Doritos until the bags were redesigned several (10?) years ago. My thought is that perhaps Taco came early-on, then disappeared for awhile after Nacho Cheese and Cool Ranch took off, then reappeared later (possibly with the Taco Bell tie-in).

I'm not going to give up without a fight, so I'm going to follow-up on the availability of both flavors, to see if I can get a tie on the technicality that Taco came first but Nacho Cheese has actually been available longer...
