Default Now this is a Pocket PC

Well, not really, but sure as hell beats the OQO.

"The latest addition to Sony's Vaio line of portables more resembles a handheld than a laptop, featuring a touch-sensitive 5" display, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g - and Windows XP. Weighing in excess of one pound, Sony today debuted its new VAIO VGN-U750P in the U.S., a palmtop computer previously only available in Japan. Despite not being able to compete with recent handheld devices in size and weight, the new palmtop weighs considerably less than the average laptop, yet boasts a fully fledged Intel-based environment running Windows XP Professional as opposed to the specialized platforms powering handhelds."

When posting about an article, please don't quote most of it - it's better to link to the article and give them the traffic rather than re-publishing most of their content here. Also, putting the quotes in quotation marks is a nice thing to do so people know the words are from the article, not your words. :-)

At the low cost of only $2000. (Actually not bad for the genre). I am not excited about the "proprietary software from Sony to enable handwriting recognition and other features similar to those found in Tablet PC based products." I also don't note any mention of BT, which would have been nice to pair this with a BT mouse and keyboard.

Sony's stubbornness AMAZES me - they always try to go their own way rather than paying Microsoft the extra $2 per license or whatever to get the Tablet PC OS. They did the same thing with Windows Media Center Edition - they tried their own thing first, it failed, and now they're doing an official MCE 2005 device. Exactly the same thing will happen here. Sony just doesn't get it, which is why Samsun is eating their lunch in so many markets.

this device looks like a media device rather than an ultra portable computer.
and the price is too high for such resolution and screen size!
what can anyone do with this device he cant do with a psion pro???

I dont' think this device is for the person that askes "is it worth the money?". It for the person that says "wow, cool, where can I get one?".

I'd never buy one, for $2000, i'd buy a laptop, but if I had the cash to burn, i'd buy them both.

actually, this device has been discontinued here in japan...

one of the main reasons?

poor sales...

---

i mean, take a look at it...

youve got a device that weighs 550g, and only has 4 hours of charge... you want to up it so you get extra batteries... then you are approaching the realm of notebooks then... but you then, you are still not quite close to having a notebook because your keyboard is "dismembered" - if you want to use it you have to lug around it plus connection cables...

also, unless you buy straight from sony style - you get a measly model that has a less powerful processor, and less ram... what gives? we all know that buying straight from sony style has the prices already jacked up... not mentioning the already high cost of this geek toy...

nah... as for me, this is a notebook trying to be a pda but is not yet getting there... shall we say, sony is testing the waters?

Ah, this thread gives me such a warm and cozy feeling ... that I am not alone in this world. Die sony die :devilboy:

I have personally banned that brand from my households, until they decide to play nice and drop all those proprietary junks that they are so charged up about.

Long lives Panasonic, Motorola and Mitsubishi !

Agreed - previous DVD player was a Sony (gift). The only requirement for its replacement was anything but another Sony.
