Default Mozilla Firefox (was Firebird) 0.8 released

If you're a Firebird (now Firefox) fan, be sure to download the update. Notable improvements include, among others, speed improvements in the renderer, a Windows installer, more intelligent handling of servers with incorrect MIME types (i.e., binary content will run instead of showing gobbledygook), nice new download manager.

Note that you'll need to update your extensions and themes if you do so. I've generally been pretty happy with the new release. If you're curious as to why they changed the name, see this page. Basically, this name was registerable as a trademark with the USPTO, and now there won't be any confusion with the open-source Firebird database. And I like the new icon.

Me too. Much cooler. Thanks for letting me know. I'm a Firebird, I mean, Firefox fan. I don't use IE any more.

I see it says it supports the Google Toolbar. Does it support the newest version of the toolbar that fills in forms for you (including your credit card)?

Like the new icon, don't like the new name Anyway, Firefox has built-in pop up blocking like its big brother (mozilla) correct? That's all I really use my browser add-in toolbars for. (I make my friend who works at best buy sick when he sees the google toolbar, the yahoo toolbar (for the links) and the altavista toolbar (for translations) on my screen )

I'm not too happy with FireFox yet. I loved my old Firebird icons (shown extra large to show the beauty :mrgreen, and can't access any extensions to install them as a few people are hammering the site to get at 'em.

And also, if you get the Google Toolbar that was designed for Mozilla/Firebird off the extensions site (not the official Google toolbar), it has translator functionality built in to the right-click context menu. One of my favorite extensions that I'm missing right now 8)

Are they referring to the mozdev googlebar? It does have a search field that uses google by default in the address bar, but the official Google toolbar still seems to be IE-only.

I know what you mean. I had a heck of a time downloading my extensions yesterday. It's a little better today...

Love it. This browser is fast! I like the concept of adding the features you want through modules. One question though, does anyone know how to get Outlook 2003 to recognize Firfox as the default browser (for hyperlinked content)? Right now, even though AvantBrowser knows it's not the default browser on the system, it still responds as though it is and launches when I click emails with hyperlinks. Any ideas?
