Motorola Profits Up Thanks to Mobile Sales

"Reversing a trend of lower profits by mobile phone makers, Motorola today announced earnings of $933 million for the second quarter of 2005. This compares to a net loss of over $200 million for the same quarter a year ago. Rapid sales of handsets like the RAZR V3 have helped fuel Motorola's recovery. During the second quarter Motorola shipped 33.9 million handsets. That's almost 10 million more units than Samsung shipped, despite the two companies being very close in sales over the past several quarters."



So it looks like the RAZR helped save Motorola's bacon. It sure wasn't the MPx220. Here is an idea for you Motorola: Make a Smartphone as good as the RAZR seems to be. Call me crazy but it just might work! :lol:

it's hard for me to imagine that the Razr boosted Moto's sales, especially in light of the MPx220 fubar... well, it's good they made some money maybe i'll get paid now (e.g., dividends).

either way, Moto would have to come back big-time for me hook up with them again. had i known what life was like with a Smartphone that actually works, i would have switched to the 5600 or SP3i sooner... i've never felt so good sending something back like i did yesterday when i sent my MPx220 back to Cingular.

Dividends is a good way to get something back from Moto for all your wasted time and efforts. :wink:

Despite it's relatively low spec and serious UI/software flaws, the V3 has obviously done very well for Motorola.

As a smartphone fan, I find this kinda worrying. If people are happy with low spec phones with shoddy software, will manufacturers bother to pour resources into smart/high-end phone development? I hope so. : :?

I must have been especially lucky with my mpx220...because I've been very happy with it. Granted, I haven't had much of a chance to play around with other SmartPhones (well, the one other available from Cingular...and it's not like I can exactly go say.."hey, can I have one of those to play around with for a while?"). I've had bar phones up to now, but love the flip so much more now.

The crazy power draw is a bit annoying, but I hear you get that with any smartphone. The camera's not great, but I don't expect a camera phone to be. It works with my bluetooth GPS now, so should I be without my PocketPC I can find my way. It sometimes shows no signal when there is one - but it still places and receives calls when showing no signal - at least it's not the other way around.

We must be two the Nick my MPX220 have during the short time i've owned it worked beautifully. It works with my socket gps (Just like you said that if I don't have my ppc with I can always find my way home with my smartphone).. It holds reception where my old phone didn't.

yep, that's the one positive on Mr Moto at the moment. For 9 months i really thought my phone was immune to some of the issues others experienced, but this no-charging thing put me at the end of my MPx-220 rope. a cash/stock dividend payment will ease that pain...

ah, but remember "Joe Consumer" - especially here in Canada, Moto's are hugely popular phones. Flip/clamshell phones are the style. I just got rid of my iMate and looking back to a PPC/BT Phone combo. The RAZR is actually going to be one of the choices I am looking at.

Moto was not so popular here in Sweden until the Razor and MPX220 came out on the market, so I can see that they got their sales bosted by these phones.
