Palms used to have excellent battery life, but it was easy to see why: low-res 160 x 160 monochrome screens, 16 mhz Dragonball CPU. The claim of "weeks" was accurate - but it was a combination of those lower-power parts and the fact that the usability scenarios were different. People with Palm Vx's didn't/couldn't use them to listen to MP3s or play games on a 320 x 240 colour screen like we were doing with our E-125's back in the day.

Many modern-day Palms have worse battery life than the equivalent Pocket PCs, but most Web sites seem to ignore that. There's a lot of justification going on when they review Palms, and a lot of criticism when it comes to Pocket PCs. If reviewers could take off the blinders and be more realistic about battery life comments, it would serve the buying public much better.

Thankfully this is slowly but surely going away, but it's kind of funny where we stand today, like the frontpage link to the shootout where the PPC lost so much it wasn't even funny. (I have to get back to work and can't find the link it was writtin by the palm book author.)

And I applaud them for that honesty!
