Due to complaints, a cop is staking out a stop sign for people who roll through it. He watches as a BMW rolls through and continues on down the road, them makes chase.

The man stops and the officer informs him he rolled through a stop sign.

The driver says "But officer, I slowed down! I slowed down and there was nobody coming, so it's OK. I mean, come on.... OK..... so I slowed down instead of stopped. What's the difference?"

With that, the officer pulls the man from the car, throws him to the ground and beats him with his night-stick eight or ten times. He pauses, looks at the man and says, "Now, would you like me to stop? Or just slow down?"
