Default Fujitsu Laptop Just Died? Looking for Repair Advice.

The title says it all. My Lifebook just died (I think) 13 months after purchase (yes, yes, one month AFTER the warranty expired. I was using it last night and the screen just went black and the fan kicked on. Now, the only response I get when turning it on is the fan running. Black screen and nothing else appears to be happening.

I've got to get it fixed as a new laptop is not an option right now. I'm just looking for advice from the community on what the problem might be and any suggestions on where to have it repaired.

As always, thanx in advance for any thoughts.

Have you tried an external monitor?

Ouch, that sucks. :-( Two things to try and troubleshoot this:

1) Remove the battery and leave it disconnected from AC power for a few minutes - let the whole thing reset

2) Open the close the lid a few times - it's possible that the sensor that turns on the LCD panel is malfunctioning. Trying an external monitor is a good idea.
