Firefox hit 50,000,000 downloads today at 14:58GMT
If they had a proper patching mechanism that updated a few core files intead of the lunacy they have now where you're forced to re-download the entire thing and install it from scratch, they wouldn't have hit 50 million so fast. Don't get me wrong, I like Firefox, but it irritates me that every time I "patch" it I get another instance of it in the Add/Remote programs list. That's utterly stupid.

I agree with Jason. They definitely need to change the patching process. I wonder what percentage of the downloads are unique, first-time downloads vs downloads to update the existing version.
I think it would also be interesting to know the percentage of people that download Firefox and actually stick to using it as their primary browser.
I downloaded it and gave it a try, but I still use IE. It just seems like there are fewer instances of a web page not displaying properly in IE vs Firefox.

Hmm, that's odd, I just checked, and it's only listed once in my Add/Remove Programs list. Some times I've re-downloaded and installed Firefox, and sometimes I've updated through the Firefox update dialog. Of the many programs I have, Firefox is really one of the easiest to keep updated, in my opinion. Most of my extensions are even updated automatically (well, when I chose to install the new versions) through the Firefox updater thing.
