Firefox Bookmarks Question

I use and enjoy Firefox, but it's a pain to use across multiple computers when it comes to bookmarks. What I'm looking for is something that would export my bookmark file upon exit from Firefox, and something that would import my bookmarks from a file upon start. I already have a tool that will sync the bookmarks file from one computer to the next. Is anyone aware of an extensions like that? I've tried the extensions that upload your bookmark upon exit then download them upon startup, but I've never been able to get them configured - they're horrible.

As a side question, is there any extension that bundles up all the extensions and settings on an instance of Firefox into a single file that you could then run on another computer and get everything installed and configured in one shot? It's such a pain to have to download, reinstall, and re-configure all the extensions needed for Firefox to be usable to me.

I wonder if a batch file would be good for this, although it would lead to the unsightly use of a command prompt. Firefox bookmark syncing is a bit of a pain. That's one of the reasons I converged onto a single laptop.

Not that I know of. However, Firefox is separated from the OS sufficiently that I expect copying the Firefox program directory and the preferences files in your profile might work in migrating the "configuration".

You might want to look into a file sync solution (I know of some estoteric command-line ones, which is probably not what you're looking for) to sync the Program Files\Firefox folder and the Documents and Settings\Application Data\Firefox folder between computers, and see how that works.

If a network is available, could you use SyncToy, a free product from Microsoft to Sync the bookmarks in a shared folder? Might only require a couple of clicks.

Jason, if you use some sort of file synchronisation software, or SyncToy for that matter, try synchronising X:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<PROFILENAME>\bookmarks.html across the two computers.

Yeah, the problem is that the program I use (www.foldershare.com) is built around folders, not individual files. What I need is something that will export my bookmarks to a file located in My Documents, then that file will sync as part of the My Documents sync, and it would be automatically imported when I started up Firefox.

The problem is that the bookmarks file automatically goes into the profile directory. Either you could tell FolderShare to sync the profile directory, or you could change it to be a subdirectory of My Documents (the latter via the Profile Manager in Firefox -- in fact, there's instructions on how to move an existing profile).
