Hey, I have a question. I have an Athlon XP 1800+ on an ASUS motherboard, with DDR333 ram. I THINK the processor is supposed to run at 1500mhz, but it only clocks up to 1150mhz. Windows reports this, as well as the boot screen. I'd like to get that extra 2 framerates out of Half-life 2!

I have no clue how to set the correct speed of the processor. I don't understand the settings, and i don't want to fry anything.

I remember seeing it run at 1.5ghz at one time... I just dont remember when or why...

Any help would be appriciated!

You're right, the Athlon XP 1800+ is supposed to clock @ 1533MHz. You can set the clockspeed in the motherboard's BIOS settings screen, which is accessible on reboot by hitting a special key such as F1 or DEL. I would probably refer to the manual that came with your motherboard or processor to find out the correct combination of settings (clock speed multiplier/voltage I think) so you don't burn out your system.

Any simple explanation as to why it isnt clocking up?

Like whats up with that 100/133/166/200mhz setting? And what is the freq. multiplier?

I set the bus clock speed to 200mhz and the frequency multiplier to 7.5 and viola! Windows tells me that it is running at 1.5ghz.

Its been stable so far, i think ill go play some Half-life 2, just to test it.

Good old Athlon XP, man it bring very nice memories, one of the best CPUs in history. Be aware about overclocking if your CPU has palomino core type it will burn itself if you rise it a little, but if its thoroughbred b series you can lift it as much as you want if it has corresponding cooler.
