Can't wait to see what Silverlight announcements are revealed at MIX09. For those who think Adobe Flash should be the only choice...all I have to say, I'm all about competition and I think Silverlight is proving to be a solid streaming platform. As a developer I really appreciate that I can leverage my WPF experience as well.

I was hoping they would speed up Social-features performance on Zune.net. They want us to get social and interact more...but come on...every page takes longer than 10 seconds to load.

Yeah it's really true. And the quizzes feature is a nightmare from a usability standpoint. They work fine when taking a quiz, but creating one is such a chore. Playing a podcast in the browser feels almost slapped-on because it's so poorly integrated with the rest of the visuals on the site. It's nice to see they got all of this working, but isn't the whole point of the Zune project that everything feels really well designed and integrated? I'm really not feeling that at all from these recent additions.

I was about to report the same thing - and will do up a front page post about it. It looks like if you have your location set to USA, it works.

Doomed? No way - it's going to take Microsoft a lot of effort, and a lot of years, to gain significant traction for Silverlight. Adobe Flash is *everywhere* so at best Silverlight will co-exist with Flash.

Speed is a result of the servers, and connections to and from those servers, that the Social runs on - and they just moved to a new data centre. So, hopefully, that will improve things. I agree 100% that it's all just too slow.

Smile Problems With Zune Pass

Hey Jason, this is my first post, I'm new here, but since nobody answered your question I'll have a stab at it. I'm not sure whether it's really usage rights problems or not but I've had this problem since I got my Zune and the Zune Pass: On my computer, Zune Pass (subscription) content won't sync to my Zune (neither will protected purchased videos from the Zune Marketplace). I get error C00D11CC (C00D2711) which basically says that sync failed, please reinstall the Zune software. I've done this ad nauseum, called Zune support in January, and after them walking me through every possible thing recommended on the site (and then some, including resetting DRM, creating a new user on my computer, wiping out my Zune firmware and reinstalling, etc, etc) they said they didn't know what was wrong, apparently other people were having the problem and they were gathering data to send to Microsoft for a fix. I haven't called them back to push it because I found out it is definitely my computer because I can sync these items from my husband's computer (so that's what I'm doing at this point, although I'm not sure how long he will let me use it). Once he takes his computer back I'm dead in the water. So it has to be some setting or something. I'm running XP Professional, SP2 (Zune Support says the fact I don't have SP3 shouldn't cause this problem).

After analyzing the problem over and over, (and uninstalling and reinstalling Zune Software again and again), I realized the following: While doing a clean install (as recommended on the Zune site), one of the additional programs we're told to uninstall is "Microsoft User-Mode Driver Framework Feature Pack 1.0". It also says if this (or any of the other 3 programs mentioned for uninstall) causes an error that other program are dependent on it, that we shouldn't uninstall it, but then it goes on to say the reinstall of Zune will install it again (?). On my machine I have that program but it is not 1.0 it is 1.7. I haven't yet uninstalled it because I'm afraid for my other programs. If, in fact, you (or anybody else here) knows for certain that 1.7 will reinstall with the Zune Software, that will be my next attempt. I don't want to call Zune support again if I don't have to (besides, they're probably unpacking at their new location!).

Sorry for the LONG explanation, but you asked!

Thanks for any help you can give.

looks more like fixing the fluff rather than fixing what needs it!

this software has serious errors and so far the entire zune team has been unable to even admit they have issues even when slapped in the face with them.
