Default Motorola MPX200 & wm 2003

Hi,

I am looking to purchase the MPX200 (going to use it until the MPX is available), and I noticed plenty of unlocked phones for sale on ebay around $170.00. There are some sellers who have great feedback (around 99% positive feedback), and they are advertising /selling the MPX200 with $100.00 worth of accesories, and here's the kicker "COMES WITH WM2003". I read your article and if I understood you correctly Motorola does not offer WM2003 upgrade. If this is the case how can legally advertise & sell this on ebay? Will this work? & will Motorola honor the warranty? If not, than is this considered a grey good?
I would appreciate your reply

Regards,

Brad

Motorola will not honor the warranty. They do not sell a MPx200 with 2003 on it. There is a hacked ROM that is floating around the internet. So, it looks like the seller is offering the phone flashed with this ROM. Is this illegal? I'm not sure, but my guess would be yes. Personally, I wouldn't buy one.

Default reception Strength

I have to ask a seperate yet related question. I have an MPX 200 and am considering an upgrade to the 220. the only reason that I would upgrade is for reception as it is really bad on the 200. My question is, if I upgraded my phone to WM2003, would that improve the reception?

Also, is the frequency determined by the hardware or the firmware? And, if the reception is better with WM2003 is that because it is now working with the 850 frequency.

thanks

I can't say for certain as I don't have an MPx200. As well, I do advise against upgrading this phone.

From what I have heard, the reception is about the same, no noticeable difference in that regard. However, I have heard that the device is more unstable after the upgrade.

thanks, in looking at the site below, they say that they reception is improved by upgrading the firmware. I personally find it hard to believe but if someone has done it and it works, I might be willing to try.

They're charging for that?! Oh man, are they ever pushing their luck. It was never officialy released by Motorola. This is an illegal ROM and it will void your warrenty.

Default I've upgraded my phone, works well

I've upgraded the phone to Smartphone 2003 and I haven't noticed any problems other than the one I was hoping to solve.

Access to TMobile T-Zones and Internet. It was a problem with 2002 and it still is with 2003.

Phone works well, text messages are great, phone life and reception are all fine, perhaps somewhat better than before but not noticable to me.
