Default Tmobile DASH speed speed dial setup question

Does any DASH owners know how to get the speed dial to work? I added a speed dial for my calculator application to my number "2" on the keyboard so i figured I would be able to bring up my calculator just by holding down the number 2 button on my homescreen but it didnt seem to work. Does anyone know how to use the speeddial properly?

Press and hold should be all you need to do. It takes about 3 seconds and then it launches the application. You'll need to be on the home screen before pressing the number.

Are you seeing nothing at all? or does it register the number press and open contacts but not launch the application? Usually if it doesn't launch the app, it means there is nothing associated with that speed dial entry. check to make sure it is set to #2 or try setting it under #3 or something.

I have the speed dial for calculator set to number 2 then on the homescreen page I try to hold down the number 2 button but it only brings up the contacts list. I also tried assigning the calculator app to number 3 but when i hold the number 3 button down it only brings up the contacts list again. Is it something Im doing wrong?

No, I think you got it right. It's not very hard.

What 3rd party apps have you installed? I wonder if one of them is blocking this from running. I have never had any problems with Speed Dial on any of my devices.

Well, it shouldn't matter what home screen you have selected or what application you setup on the speed dial. I always put the Task Manager to #9 on all my devices and I've never had it not run. That's why I'm thinking that some other application must looking at the keypad for input.

I can't think of any other reason why it wouldn't work. Do voice tags work? You can add a voice tag from the same menu as a speed dial.

What? That's freaking odd. Did you reboot the phone by chance? :?

no not really...i didnt need to reboot or anything. After I initially set up the speed dials (#2 for calculator, #3 for tasks), back at homescreen i tried holding down those buttons but nothing came up except for contacts lists. Few minutes later i tried again then it suddenly all worked. Im assuming maybe it takes few minutes to let it initialize before the speed dials work. maybe i dunno..but it works now so im glad. Thanks for the help.
Oh I do have a separate question about the tasks though...is there a way on the DASH to organize the tasks by categories or folders?

No, the tasks program on the dash is pretty basic. It's actually a third party app that HTC installs. (It's not Microsoft code)

I don't know of any task manager that lets you .... Oh wait. You're talking about Tasks and not system process tasks (task manager). Opps.. Forget what I said.

The Tasks app is pretty basic. I don't think you can do anything with the tasks. There are a number of replacement tasks programs, but I haven't used them so I can't comment. Sorry.
