Default Need The Future Now!

Can anyone tell me if I am on the wrong track? I reently gave up my Ipaq PDA to get an Audiovox Thera PDA CDMA phone. Why? I have long wanted a cell phone that does all the functions of my PDA (and some of the newer stuff my PDA didn't have yet). Not seeing anything that suited me, I settled for the Thera as a stop-gap measure until the hardware met my expectations. With a good PDA pushing $600+ and cell phones $300+ and the fact that I have to carry a pager, a cell phone and a PDA I thought there would be something out there that effectively combines them all. Wrong. Being on Verison systme I looked at the SPH-i700 by Samsung. Has the features, but the processor is only a 300 MHz PXA250 XScale processor. For that much $ shouldn't it have the fastest available? So I looked at the motora MPX200. Duh...no Pocket Word, etc. too small of a screen, no hand writing capability. So I'm asking where do I go and how long do I have to wait for the best of the best. All the features of a PDA in a phone with no comprimise? Something along these lines http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/333/C1853/ with Voice Command and PPC 2003 and the new Intel processor and...and...and... :?

There is always something better on it's way. Tis the nature of this industry.

Sounds like you want something like Motorola's MPx that is expected to ship around the end of Q2 this year. Since you're leaning more to a "data/PDA with phone" based device, you might want to check out our sister site Pocket PC Thoughts.

Get anything...just get rid of that Thera....I HATE THEM. They are not even PPC - Phone Editions. It's just a PPC with a wireless card built in...not integrated....Booooooo! Poor batter life. Crashes all the time. I HATE THEM! And they are based on technology that's at least 2 or 3 years old.

(Can you tell I dont like them?)

I used to be an avid PPCPE user. But after using the Smartphone...there;s not much more that I need. There are days when I wish I had a PPCPE, and will probably look at the newer smaller versions coming very soon, like the MPx.

But give the Smartphone's a shot...they are VERY powerful and get better everyday with new models and the ever growing catalog of software. Depending on what you use it for....it may suit your needs in a smaller form factor that you'll be sure to enjoy after carrying around that brick of a Thera that you have there.

Default Thera is living on borrowed time...

I agree with you on the Thera. I have a 256mb SD card and it takes forever to read it each time it boots up. I am seriously considering the new Motorola MPX (if they ever release it). Everything I've read appears to be good, but you can't tell until you can get it in your hands.
