Audiovox SMT5600 as an mp3 player?
Hi, I've been looking to toss my old phone in favor of the Audiovox SMT5600. Since Amazon.com is selling the SMT5600 for -$25 right now, I was thinking I should just purchase a $75 512mb mini-SD card and load my music on it instead of buying a separate $150 mp3 player.
Is this a viable option or is there something about the phone that I'm missing?

Not at all. Nothing that I can think of. I haven't put any music on my 5600 yet, but that's because I don't have a miniSD card yet. Where have you seen the 512MB for $75?

They're out of stock right now but the price is $53 for the 512mb.
Buy.com is selling at $54, but they're also out of stock.
PC Universe has theirs at $55.55, but... they're also out of stock.
Yeah, I guess prices have gone down a bit since I last checked, heh.

So has the stock!
Thanks for the links, I'll watch them and see if I can pick something up.

I use my SMT5600 and 256MB Mini for an MP3 player and works perfect, I can’t even find any cons to tell you. Except that you should use a memory card reader to transfer your mp3s
Also can someone please post a link for a cheap audio adapter (I want to use my regular headphones)

Check out Pocket PC Techs or your local Radio Shack.

Thanks for all of the info guys! One more thing though, I just read on the CNET.com review that the SMT5600 limits you to 256mb on the miniSD card? Is that true?

No it's not true. You'll be fine with 512 or more.

Flash Storage in Audiovox SMT5600
Anyone have any insights as to why my SMT5600 is at only 472kb of Flash Memory, and I am getting warnings on low storage? I deleted all in Space Maker, and reduced contacts from 543 to around 250 which only changed available Flash storage from 358 to to the 472kb.
