Default Alltel Wireless Debuts Two Bold Choices, Moto Q 9c and Moto Q 9c Lime

http://www.motorola.com/mediacenter...geLocaleId=2026

"Alltel Wireless, America’s largest network, and Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced that Motorola’s leading smartphone will be available in two color options, MOTO QTM 9c in licorice and MOTO QTM 9c lime, expected this summer. MOTO Q 9c and MOTO Q 9c lime provide on-the-go consumers with the tools and applications needed to keep up with their fast-paced professional and personal lives. ... The smartphones offer innovative features wrapped in a sleek design and Alltel Wireless customers can choose their color preference, MOTO Q 9c in licorice with a silver sail band or MOTO Q 9c lime edged in tin silver. The QWERTY keyboard has been precisely engineered for fast and accurate typing and provides the ideal experience for frequent messaging¹. The large 2.4 inch color display is perfect for viewing pictures or videos, including those captured via the device’s 1.3 megapixel camera with flash and fixed focus. In addition to the 128MB of on-board memory, MOTO Q 9c and MOTO Q 9c lime are future-proofed and will support up to 32GB of external memory when larger capacity cards become available, providing plenty of room to store photos and other multimedia."

Motorola's fascination with colors keeps on going. Instead of adding useful features like Wi-Fi, better camera and GPS; Motorola just likes to change the color and announce a "new" model every six months. And the company execs wonder why the mobile division is not doing well? The thing that really surprised me in this press release is that it didn't mention GPS as one of the features, not sure if this is a mistake in the press release or if the product really doesn't have GPS. The Moto Q 9c announced on Sprint has GPS. Alltel Wireless will offer MOTO Q 9c and MOTO Q 9c lime for $99.99 after a $100.00 mail-in rebate and requires a two year service agreement. The handset will be available this summer and will ship with Windows Mobile 6. The Alltel Q9c is one of the models supposed to receive the Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade. Let's hope that the product will ship with 6.1 and save us the hassle of the backup-upgrade process.

If there's unlimited (or a high cap) on the high speed data line Wi-fi's not so handy. Speaking from a country where there's a country-wide Wi-fi initiative, I find to be not restricted to a wi-fi point's range so much more convenient.

Default Clarification from an Alltel Consultant

The Q9C is GPS capable first of all. Second there is no reason for WiFi on the Q9C for Alltel because the purchase of the phone for the Sale price requires a 2 year contract and a Smart Choice Plan. The Smart Choice plan includes UNLIMITED data transfer unlike many competetors. If you have signal you have EVDO signal you have 2.4MB/s internet. Even 1X and Digital are faster than dial-up. If interfacing with your home network is your concern a simple program can be downloaded to your home PC or Server and to the Q9C to allow remote administration even from outside your home which blows WiFi out of the water. With the Expandable Memory slot having such high-capacity storage and the fact that you can create/edit Office documents. Sync your Outlook e-mail appointments contacts and calender, not to mention use Push technology with your microsoft exchange server the options are limitless. You can even use the Q9C to remotely control your TV, Media Center, or Projector. You can seemlessly use your phone to present, and control a Powerpoint Presentation on a projector, across a network, and more.

The Q9C also has a partitioned space that is not writeable by the user, unlike the Moto Q. I know this doesn't sound like a hot feature but inept users can no longer fill their memory to absolute maximum causing the phone to lock up and crash and burn. Even if you don't heed it's warnings to delete data from your phone because your almost out of memory, the phone won't crash and burn.

The new keyboard is much easier for people with larger fingers to type with and the rubber coating makes it easier to grip and control.

While you say they change the color and call it new. And fuss about the camera not being bigger and better you overlook all that is good. Even if they did make the camera better it wouldn't be 5.0 MP If you want a camera buy a camera, if you want a killer Windows Mobile 6 phone loaded with features, get the Q9C.

By the way, the Q9C is the first and only phone to incorporate a photosensor that can detect the amount of light around the phone to adjust the screen brighter in darkness and dimmer in light areas, boosting the phone's battery life beyond the competition.

Default When will Alltel Launch the Q9?

Virtualreal, Do you have any insight into when Alltel will be launching the Q9c. I have decided that it is time for a smartphone and thought it might be worth the wait if they launch it any time soon.

Thanks
