Sorry mate but I just want to point out that the Palm 1000 came out about 3 years AFTER Apple came out with the first true PDA, the Newton. In fact, many on the Palm team were Apple Newton expats.

Just want to set the record straight.

ops: Ooh man.. I had the Newton down in some rough notes but I then forgot it. Maybe I supressed it as I so coveted one and couldn't afford one in those days.

Default Sony P900

I haven't been a PDA user till few weeks ago because the annoyance to carry with me a separate device was a burden so big that I preferred rely on my phone and my own brain to do the simple tasks I though the PDA would have helped me.

Then along came the P900.... small enough to be considered a phone, but with amazing capabilities. And now I'm using it everyday for diary, small notes, to carry along office docs, and few other minor stuff (like gaming )

Connect with bluetooth to sync, recognize hand writing, few smart apps allow to use a virtual keyboard, play my music, play amazing videos (I've been copying full episodes of my fav tv show and watched comfotably while waiting at dentist...) take quick snapshots (not great quality, but good enough for the purpose) and much more

I don't use it to connect to internet (here in indonesia the costs of GPRS are at the moment too high) , but I heard it's quite good at it too...

For sure I wouldn't use it to type lenghty reports or long e-mails, but in my opinion this piece of hardware is simply GREAT!

Default Cool Article

As the the first post concluded, it all depends on your personal preference and how you work. I see that this threat has brought out all sorts of ideas. I fit into the category of Road Warrior, but without a technical background. I work on the road, planning and implementing tours for tourists and corporate clients, all over europe.

A few years ago I made the plunge and bought an Ipaq 3870, paired it with my erricson t68i, and over the last years it got so much use writting stuff and sending sms' that i wore out my ipaq keyboard. (Now I have a fellows XT keyboard which is GREAT) Not being a techie, it took me a while to get it all working properly and inderstand its caprices (about 12 months no joke!). I discovered it dislikes direct sun, moist air, and is not too keen either on being left idle otherwise the bluetooth connection needs to be re-freshed etc.) The unit had to go back to HP three times to make it work properly. All this past experience makes me very loath to change up to anything new.

I happily produced spread sheets printing them by infrared on an HP350cbi printer that lives in my suitcase. However, i increasingly began to feel limited by the software: excel sheets have a limited cell size, and no matter how much i tried, could not make the ppc send a fax. Forget active sync bluetooth. Hence I ended up buying a laptop which now also travels with me in my briefcase. This may seem quite silly to post this here in a pocket pc forum, but having a laptop has enabled me to get much more out of the pocket pc, that I now view my pocket pc more as a mini-mirrow of my laptop, browsing text (mobipocket and word), producing spreadsheet pricelists (excel), dialling from my phone database (over 1000 contacts) to my cell phone (simple call plug-in), keeping in touch with the world (simple sms), along with basic organising (tasks, autoroute maps, etc)..All this not to mention the ability to regularly back it all up to cd.

Everything is working fine, and so a change would have to bring big benefits...This is what I would need a replacement to my ipaq to be capable of doing for me to change (ANY MANUFACTURERS LISTENING???):

1. Bluetooth functionality that works without me having to take a nightschool class to understand the new model like i now understand my Ipaq 3870.

2. Built in phone (preferably that could handle more than one sim card). Everyone i work with (in Europe) carries two or three phones/sim cards. I have four sim cards..each for a different country. I dont believe this is not possible. Failing this, I would still carry another phone.

3. Fax that works out of the box... (without me having to go to nightschool etc etc etc..)

4. Wifi that works out of the box. Very occasionally now i find spots as I travel through Europe, not to mention Hotels that increasingly are providing this service.

5. Preferably a unit that would allow me to use my existing bits of kit (such as fellows keyboard that took me ages to get my hands on).

That will do, forget mp3 & taking crappy resolution photos It doesnt even have to be smaller than my Ipaq. Just as long as it works. So does this mean i need to wait until July for the new offering from HP. That all depends on the reviews that come out about the bluetooth functionality. If there are similar problems to the ones experienced with the Imate phone and Mobile windows phone 2003, I may just stay with my existing kit and make do.

I've always been a PDA type guy, but I think that is going to change when (if) the Treo Ace arrives.

As mentioned above, the Treo 600 is a good device, probably the best smartphone right now. Hasn't tempted me though, I stuck with my Axim and now with my Zaurus.

The Ace, with BT, better screen and smaller size could just do it. I'm not a huge Palm fan, but I believe their phone/pda integration is the best at the moment and with Agendus I would be all set.

Only problem with this plan is that a new version of the Zaurus clamshell is rumored as well. What it really is going to come down to is do I want a conbined device that would need me to keep my laptop, or a mini laptop replacement and a regular phone.

As I say, I'm leaning Treo Ace right now, but there's plenty of time for that to change.

Default PDA Pocket PC or NOTEBOOK

The Oxford English-French Dictionary is a comprehensive French hardcover dictionary. If you happened to be in Paris and you wish to visit the flea market, this heavy edition may not be the best option to carry. A concise version of the dictionary gives you similar results for the same application.
Mobile devices such as Pocket PC and Mobile Phone are intended to complement, not replace, notebook PCs. However mobile devices increase the range of options for the mobile workforce. The more powerful mobile devices are and the less it cost to transfer data to and from the mobile device, the more opportunities are opened for concise versions of desktop applications.
http://www.Main-Lobby.com mission is to develop concise versions for all available desktop applications. To develop a mechanism to filter out the information required for a particular mobile workforce from the comprehensive corporate database.
You will be surprised how much can be done on those small devices

Default PDA battery

I bought a replacement PDA battery for my PDA about a month ago from http://www.laptopsforless.com/pdahandheldbattery and it works great. Is there any reason to think that a replacement PDA battery would be any worse than the manufacturer’s replacement?
