Do what works for you. I was VZW for a while, and then went to TMo because of the cool devices, like you said. I got lucky: wherever I need to use the phone, it works fine. I miss the higher speed on the i700, but the stability on the TMo PPC phone is much better (at least until 2003 came out in the i700).

Plus, the SIM card thing is really nice to have. I don't need to call someone or go online to switch phones.

I am not sure if they are talking about true roaming or about verification of the existing of a Wifi network at the moment of the first connection.

I hope they are talking about true roaming. BTW, for those who don't need a VPN, the verification of Wifi existence first, and connection to GPRS only if it doesn't exist can be achieved by working with Work|Work in the connection settings.

It is good to hear though that someone is doing some thinking on how to improve connection manager.

When my Palm and Nokia bite the big one (not for a few years, tho), this is what I want to get: a PDA/Phone combo. This looks nice, with its Wi-Fi, BT, GSM/GPRS, and such. Bonus points if it's VGA.
