Jason Simotas, developer of the evmo.com Web site, has just announced the relaunch of the new and improved version of the portal site.



Like many portal sites, this one gives you quick access to popular newspapers, restaurant guides and travel information. However, there are also some site categories and links not offered on other sites:

• PGA tour information
• Webster's Dictionary and other reference tools
• Web-based E-mail access
• Religion and daily devotionals

I've given this site a try on my Pocket PC Phone Edition and found that the speed of the site was pretty good. So, make sure you add this one to your Mobile Favorites and give it a try.

It's good to have evmo back! A month ago, when I got my new i700, I was eager to use evmo, but discovered that it was no longer there...
Now I see that the absence was just a short hiatus for improvements!!

Looking forward to using evmo a lot, now that I'm always connected! :rock on dude!:

I just went there with Mozilla Firebird (will go later on my XDA), and I only have one question:

Why the heck are all the links Javascript? I try to click on the category links, and in Firebird at least, nothing happens.

I know Pocket IE supports JS, but other mobile browsers (such as the T-Mobile Sidekick/Danger Hiptop) don't.

Oh well - one more reason to be glad I own a Pocket PC!

Improvements? what improvement? it sucks now!

The old site allowed for user-specific content like weather and places to dine based upon your zip code. You used to log into the site with a user name/password then could tailor the site based upon your own info, such as zip code. It was cool because you could setup multi zip codes for where you plan to travel and get all the info, weather, food, news, etc...

It's a nice portal now but no where what it was.

It's nothing more than several other portals that I have bookmarked!

I was looking forward to the functionality it had before. Enter the Zip code of the area you were visiting, and viola - there was all of your custom info.

Now it appears to be nothing more than another Alan's, or PDA Portal, or Pocket Links...

And that's exactly what I get when I go to the AccuWeather and Restaurant Row selections.

Am I missing something? Did you only have to provide your ZIP code once in the earlier version? It may simply be that it doesn't always make sense to automatically provide your hometown weather; aren't these supposed to me MOBILE devices?

basically, but it also allowed for a user profile that logged you each time you went to the site. It placed a cookie on your device and logged you and updated the data based upon you zip code that you have previously setup. Then you could go to the profiles page and pick another profile (with a another zip code). I travel to our other offices for work all the time. So I would bring up the site and it would show my local info, then I could go to profiles, pick San Francisco setup and it would download the data for that profile.

All this is now is a home page with a bunch of sites not even run by this company anymore. Like who cares about "how to eat sushi" which is one of the portals it now has. It even gave you location of auto shops, starbucks, hardware stores, anything you needed was right there, and it was all based upon the zip code. It's so much less of a site then it was before, and I've already removed it from my favorites. Hopefully one day they will bring back all the functionality it had before.

In fact take a look at this old article when evmo first came out with the good content:

evmo will eventually have all it's original services - plus much more.

The location based services will be online in about a month.

If you loved evmo before, just wait. In mid 2004 you will see the real mobile evolution ; )
