Ever since Gmail hit beta, I've seen requests and comments about its inability to be used with Pocket PCs. There's good news in that regard: Google is in the process of rolling out POP3 support, which in theory should work just fine with the Inbox applet in Pocket PCs.



Apparently, some accounts already have this (although mine doesn't). Incidentally, it requires SSL -- but WM2003 and up have this built into Inbox, so that shouldn't pose a problem. If you happen to have a Gmail account with this functionality and have tested it on your Pocket PC, report back and let us know how it works.

From other sites, I've heard all GMail accounts should have this feature within two weeks. I currently don't have it on mine.

It works fine on my Smartphone, although I did get a warning that the server certificate wouldn't be valid...

Wow, I clicked settings on mine and was VERY pleased to find that it has been turned on on my account. Excellent work Google!

I'm sure if this will work with PocketPC Inbox since it does not allow you to define the STMP and POP3 ports. GMail is using non-standard ports.

Damn - good point.

My account is not set for this yet, but I was really looking forward to gmail on my Pocket PC.

I think WebIs Mail will allow you to set the ports - anyone have this and able to confirm?

If so then I think that will be my first purchase once POP is enabled on my gmail account.

I have tried to connect using nPOPw (which does allow you to use ports)
but I can't get it to work....

The ports Gmail uses are specific for SSL, if I'm not mistaken. I couldn't set the ports on my Smartphone, but selecting SSL was enough for Gmail to work. I just checked this with Inbox on my iPAQ 2215 and it gave the same invalid server certificate my smartphone did, but it does work. So just selecting SSL will do, no specific ports need to be specified.
