I'm getting the same error message, but it's not getting as far as logging on. It just says 'Connecting', then there's a wait, and then it displays the "Messages cannot be downloaded" error. I've been trying it all afternoon, and using the same settings as Baralong above (plus some others). It doesn't want to know, either via bluetooth and mobile, or through the network at work. But as I say, it's working with same PC Outlook 2002 absolutely fine.

I'm completely stumped

Other POP accounts on my 2210 are working fine :?:
I consistantly got the "Messages cannot be downloaded" error. Then I went into the Gmail settings and selected this option:

Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on.

Worked fine for me after that.
I had to do this as well. Also I have noticed that the message may jsut dissapear from the PocektPC for no reason.

Send a message via MSN to baralong

Thankyou. OK I'm up and running now.
That must have been the only setting I didn't try

Ah! Finally got it to work. I got it to work on my PC instantly, but it wouldn't download the messages on my Pocket PC no matter what I did. I went to Gmail settings again, and re-enabled POP. Now it works.

I couldn't get it to work without putting the :995 after the pop.gmail.com. Works perfectly now! So convenient to check emails from bed in the morning

Hmmm...... this gets stranger and stranger for me.

I've tried everyone's suggestions - thanks for those

But still doesn't work.

So, a friend at work has a 2210 also, typed all my own personal GMail settings into his PDA (same model) and it worked straight away !!!!!! No problems at all. So there's clearly no problems with the set-up at the GMail end of things.

Back to mine - typed in the same settings - still doesn't work. :bad-words:

So I'm double stumped now. Clearly I've set it up correctly on the Gmail side (because my settings work on another PDA and on my desktop), yet it won't work on my PDA. Meanwhile, to confuse matters further, the NTLworld pop email I have on my 2210 continues to function perfectly. This is all true for the via work connection and via bluetooth modem.

Any ideas anyone has would be very gratefully received at this point

When I first got my 2215 I had all kinds of unexplainable problems with inbox. I knew I had the setup right. Some errors even came down to what I named the account. I eventually exchanged it to find that my new one had the same problems. I tested on my friends and all worked as it should. I continued to exchange until best buy was out of stock. others had returned some too. when the next shipment came in i got another exchange. That one worked perfectly. There appeared to be a run of them that had some kind of defect, weather it be rom image or hardware. but once i got one from a different run i was fine.

maybe you have a similar issue... dunno.
