Good idea! Then you can pay Apple for overpriced iTunes, Movies, Proprietary cables and connectors, and so on, and so on and so on.... So, what would be a final cost of owning iPhone? And there are other WM device options already came or comming to the market with the contract and discount.

X1a and iPhone is two different products. If you really don't want the iphone, but want a WinMobile device, buy the Fuze. I would say its 90% of what the X1a is and you can get it from ATT with a contract for under $300.

I regulary listen to the engadget podcast and you're right they are pretty hard on Windows Mobile. But they are on point (at least in the podcast) on Windows Mobile's shortcomings. I dont think I've heard anything there that we (this community) haven't expressed ourselves. They are just a little more flamboyant on how they express it. I believe they describe TouchFlo 3D and other UI extensions by referring to some farm animal and lipstick.

I'm not agreeing just repeating what they're saying.

On of the guys does is a happy owner of a Zune, so I don't think they're completely anti-Microsoft

I've been thinking about how some people ridicule the likes of Mobile shell, Touchflo 3D and even SE's Tiles on the Experia.

If Windows Mobile is meant to be a platform then perhaps custom UIs are a legitimate offspring of the OS. I don't hear too many people complaining that the Linux kernel doesn't come with a robust windowing system.

But back on topic...
I've slowly been moving this phone to the top of my list. They seem to have hit the custom UI strategy on the head. Although I am struggling with the $800 price tag.

I wonder if this phone has any chance of receiving Windows Mobile 7. Its specs seem to be pretty robust.
