Default Please Help!! 5 min test on your Pocket PC 2003 based unit

Hello,

An application we have developed receives an error when attempting to overwrite an existing database on a Pocket PC 2003 device. This has been working flawlessly with Pocket PC 2002 and 2000.

We have been able to recreate this problem outside of our application, using nothing more than ActiveSync 3.7.

If you own a Pocket PC 2003 device:

*Please* spend 5 minutes to try the steps below and post a reply with your results.

1. Cradle your Pocket PC 2003 unit.

2. In the ActiveSync main window, click the "Explore" button (this typically opens the PPC's "My Documents" folder).

3. Find any .MDB file on your desktop PC (one of the demo .MDB files that ship with MS-Access are fine).

4. Copy the .MDB file to the PPC unit (just drag n' drop the file onto ActiveSync window). When the "Import from Database to Mobile Device" window pops up, uncheck the "Keep Synchronized" option, and click the "OK" button.

5. Next, the .MDB file you just copied should reside on the PPC, but with the extension of .CDB.

6. Finally, overwrite the .CDB file on the PPC by doing step 4 once again. This time around, just before the copy process begins, you will be prompted "Document already exists -- Do you want to replace this database". Click "Yes".

7. This is the point the process errors for us. The message returned by the copy process is:

"The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another
process."

8. Now post a reply to this message with your results. Please include the following info:

-- Did the test error for you?
-- If yes, please include the error message
-- Version of Windows on the Desktop PC
-- Version of ActiveSync on the Desktop PC
-- Brand & Model of Pocket PC
-- Version of Pocket PC O/S (2000, 2002, or 2003)

Our configuration:
- Windows XP Pro
- Active Sync 3.7 (version 3.6 previously installed)
- HP iPaq 2215 with Pocket PC 2003

Other notes:
We have tried step 2. right after rebooting WinXP and a soft reset of the
iPaq, but the error remains. Also have tried disabling Norton Anti-Virus.

Any other thoughts or suggestions would also be appreciated.

Thank-you *very much* for your assistance. :!:

Regards,

EricR
