You can save MapPoint maps now to your Pocket PC. The process is a bit convoluted and involves Mobile Favorites, but it does work, and is easier than creating your own by cutting and pasting into Word. If you are looking for a free alternative to Streets & Trips or GPS hardware, this is worth checking out.

I thought that adding maps to your PPC was pretty easy anyway.

I have saved a ton of maps by simply cutting out the area that you want to save and right clicking within the area. One of the choices that comes up after right clicking is saving it to your PPC. Done deal....

That's for the computer program version of MapPoint - there's now a MapPoint website that you can use to get location information, maps, driving directions, etc. similar to Mapblast and others. This is what Ed is talking about...

I know this might not be a favorite with everyone but I use AvantGo and subscribe to MapBlast and MapQuest to get the maps I need. They've always worked great for me.

Ed, I went to that site and I don't see any instructions for doing what you say. I own MapPoint, but I think you're talking about doing it from their site. What has been missing from Streets and Trips and from MapPoint is the ability to download directions to a PPC, and your graphic shows them. How did you do it?

On MapPoint
1. Click the Maps tab
2. Click "Save to Pocket PC"
3. Follow the directions displayed

Speaking of MapPoint (the full version), is there a way to get around the 'That map would be too large for the PocketPC' (or something like that) error message when I try to save the map to my PocketPC? I have a large flash card and I want to decide what is too large.

Thanks! That's exactly what I needed. I couldn't see the link for saving to a Pocket PC on the directions tab, but once I had it create a map that link appeared.
