Default Mazingo pop-up

I have been using Mazingo for awhile now. I like it; however the one thing I hate is that the conduit always pop's up after Mazingo is done syncing. How do I set it so the conduit stops popping up?

It seems as if all of the "good stuff" on Mazingo is premium. Is this true? If so, do you all feel it's worth the subscription? Thx.

Mazingo's Premium content is very worth wile. My only complaint is that they do a lot of teasers, like the first chapter of an E Book or something similar.

Well, you can subscribe to the Audible version of the WSJ and listen to the articles every day. Audible's system can be a bit unstable at times, though.

Paul,

I'm a longtime WSJ online subscriber, and I've NEVER been able to get the story text onto either my Palm or (now) iPAQ, although Avantgo used to sync your portfolio if you had one set up. Don't know if it still does that.

I totally abandoned AG for Mazingo about four months ago. Mazingo was working great except for the last few weeks: Now, without changing anything -- either my setup or my subscriptions -- it's slowed WAAAAAY down, regardless of whether I sync to the cradle or to a CF reader. My syncs, which formerly ran about 10 min., now take close to an hour. No video or audio, just text. It's so bad that I rarely sync any more, especially since I can't figure out how to set up an automatic (scheduled) sync at certain times of the day.

Instead of syncing using the desktop icon go to Mazingo and sync through the MY channels link. You get a small box showing progress and you only get a pop-up message if something goes wrong with the sync process . Also from the desktop icon choose Files>Settings and uncheck the Pop-up Mazingo when device connected box. I get the felling you might be talking about the way it pops-up on your Pocket PC. If that's the case syncing to a folder on your PC and tranfering to your device from there or syncing to a storage card reader will solve that.

HTH

You use the task scheduler on your PC to setup a scheduled sync.

Is pocket pc life one of the channels you sync? I noticed that almost everything on that site appears to be transfered to your Pocket PC even though it's supposed to be just the mobile channel. I found articles that were not accessible from the channel in the Mazingo folder on my CF card. I deleted it from my list and things sped up quite a bit. Maybe there are more channels out there like that that are slowing you down?

The fatal flaw with Mazingo IMHO is that you can't schedule channels to update like you can on AvantGo (once a day etc.). So any large multimedia channels sync every time the device is placed in the cradle. IS there any way around this?

Another little tip that I found useful when I was using Mazingo (I'm using iSilo/iSiloWeb now) was that you don't actually need the Mazingo client installed on the PPC. Just make sure uncompressed copying is enabled in the desktop app and open Mazingo.htm from within PIE.

iSilo is much better IMO, though it doesn't support ClearType yet, it 'remembers' your last read position in each 'channel', and also enables you to 'page' through a 'channel' in much the same way as you'd read a newspaper. Recommended.

Yup, same here. I'll give it another shot as soon as they have a native ActiveSync provider.

You'll never try it again then - there's no advantage to having a native ActiveSync provider.
