I want to get the SMT 5600, but I am concerned about coverage in the Chicago area. Specifically inside buildings. Does ATT operate in the 850 Mhz?? frequency or 1900 Mhz in the Chicago area?

AT&T switched to 850Mhz only recently. I believe last year or early this year. And they had mentioned that only the NEW towers would be 850Mhz. So at best Chicago may have a small mix. But it should be mostly 1900Mhz.

Let's see if another reader has more in-depth information.

Also Cingular is 850Mhz. And now that Cingular and AT&T are one. You will be running in 850 towers more often.

And with SMT5600 you need not worry about 850/1900 mess. As it supports both. :-)
