E-Mail via WiFi
I use an HP hx2400 series iPaq with a Toshiba laptop and AT&T broadband DSL. On the laptop directly, my E-Mail comes up automatically when I select it from the IE7 AT&T homescreen. When I use the iPAQ-to-laptop connection, I have to log-in to the E-Mail screen. This suggests to me that your problem may lie with some of the device-to-device security protocols. I just play the game and log-in the hard way. Otherwise, my WiFi web surfing is flawless, with a range of about 200 feet without a router (using the laptop's built-in WiFi). The only gripe I have is that the iPAQ processor is tediously slow in painting a full screen when there are lots of picture details.
Your problem may have to do with your workplace Intranet. Mine is only used for residential Internet web-surfing. My iPAQ even detects 3 or 4 neighborhood "always-on" DSL routers, and I could bootleg on these if I were so-minded.
Why don't you ask your network administrator to see if maybe they are using some kind of peculiar firewalls or security protocols. After all, that is why he is being paid the big bucks.
