Umm, with all that equipment in a PPC, how much are you prepared to pay ? I personally want a device like that, but I am not going to spend more than $500 on a PPC -- I still have other needs in life, e.g. a radeon 9800 pro to replace my aging ti4200, 2x 512MB DDR400 memory for my server, mortgage payment, etc. etc. etc.
I have those to (well the mortgage one anyway). One of the reasons I am waiting is to see what other vendors offer. If you think about it, when the new devices arrive, I'll be able to get all those except one in a single device, so hopefully the decision will be which one I dont get.
The 5550 will do all those except CF - and I can add a CF Sleve - hence its attractivenesis

I've already got one preordered, and my 5455 is warming up for its eBay debut. I bought the 5455 after selling my 3870 on eBay for a price that made me very happy, so hopefully history will repeat itself.
At any rate, I figure the memory upgrade for the 5455 is $179, and the O/S upgrade will probably be around $30, so it would cost me around $200 just to make the 5455 the equivalent of the 5550. If I can sell my 5455 for even $450 to $500, I figure I'm saving money... plus, I'm hoping that some of the problems that will probably never be fixed with the 5455 (like the speaker volume, and the poor sensitivity of the touchscreen in certain spots) will be fixed in the new model.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed, and holding my breath... so, I hope they release it soon! ops:

So you purchased a 5550 for $600. The CF sleeve with battery costs you another $100. A week later, Dell launched X7, with integrated BT and 802.11b, and of course, an integrated CF slot ... for $450
The point is, my friend, it is a never-ending story.
That is exactly why I only upgraded my processor only on EVEN version of intel processor. From 8086 to 80286 to 80486 to pentium 2 .. and finally to pentium 4. I always skipped the ODD version of intel processors, for economical reason.
If the 5550 only had a CF slot, in addition to the SD, I'd definitely get it. As it is, I'll probably end up getting it anyway, but I'll wait for reviews and also to see what all the other vendors come out with. I definitely don't want a smaller screen, so that will probably narrow the field considerably. Maybe the current Toshiba with the addition of the new OS would be best, but I haven't read anything about what they might be adding, like more memory, faster chip, etc. I do have lots of iPAQ accessories (cords, adapters, sleeves, keyboard, etc.), which might influence me.
I have a 3975 now, which seems to be what the problematic 3870 was supposed to be. I've read about problems with the 54xx, so hopefully all of them will be fixed with the 5550.
BTW, are mortgage payment considered tax deductible in your country ? Kindly share your tax regulation.
Let's not get too far off-topic on this, but the U.S. allows you to deduct mortgage interest if you itemize your deductions. The overall payments are not deductible, though.

Which is exactly why I will be waiting until September before I buy. Besides, the 5550 is not even shipping yet. Even if I was definately going to buy it, I would wait a week or two to see what others are saying about it.

This is an interesting time, isnt it ? One have to know what to buy, when to buy. If one is not being careful/patient enough ... dissapointment guaranteed.

You got that right.... it's frustrating to not be able to afford a new PPC every three months...

Not to mention, the upgrade for the 5455 only gives you a high speed 64MB storage card. The 5550 wil have 128MB all usable for Multiple program use.
I would love to move up to the 5550 because of the 128MB of RAM, but I am holding on to my 3970 for now. I am very happy to see the price come back in line with the previous iPAQs, when they were introduced. I think that Dell's price point had a great deal to do with this. Otherwise, we would probably see the 5455 stay at $699, and the 5550 at $799.
Either way. We know that we can count on ROM updates from HP, and this will soon be a very good time for someone to pick up a 5455 for a very good price. I imagine that after the release of the 5550, the 5455 will drop immediately to $499.
