I'm using an Ipaq PDA for the last year, during this year I have face some problems which get solved by HP technical teem and some problem required to send the ipaq to them to solve it.
after the warranty year is finished, I faced a problem with the ipaq and when I contact the support they told me that they need to send this ipaq to get repaired and the cost is 390$ for ANY REPAIRS WHAT EVER IS THE PROBLEM since they need to send this ipaq to Europe.
I don't know based on what factor 390$ been calculated, which is 65% of the price of the new model of the same series.
So if you want a PDA select one which is more reliable from a different brand because during the use of the PDA you can not avoid problems and if the problem happen after the warranty year you will replace it and not to pay 390$ for minor problem.

wow, what kind of PDA do you have? You are going to pay an arm and a leg to repair ANY pda that is out of warranty, regardless of what brand it is. Toshiba wan'ts almost $160 US to repair a screen on an e335.... you can buy them new for $130

While a desktop has estimated 5 year life span Pocket device, which may cost you close to a $1,000 with all the fixings (keyboards, storage media, quality case etc) has a 1-2 year life span. Not because they nesessarily brake. It is because manufacturers hatch out new models every six months or less , do not adequately support old devices and the goal is for cunsumers to "upgrade" as often as possible. When you are faced with paying a huge amount for repair or buying "new" many of us would opt for a new device with more features. Needless to say that unless you have a good extended warranty you are out of luck in a year or two if you are planning to hold on to your device that long, something serious happens and you cannot fix it yourself.
Many of the devices CAN last more then a year or two and they are enough to do most of the things that the newer devices can (minus better screen in some cases). I have 2 dinasaurs :IPAQ 3635 and IPAQ 3660 (or so I believe, not sure what extended warranty place gave me instead of mine which they broke replacing the battery).

I am doing battery replacements myself nowadays (both batteries are internal) because it is cheaper and I can do it. If nothing goes wrong with the processors or screens I hope to use both devices well into 2006. The 3635 was bought in 2001 and I am not sure when 3660 came out.

You didn't say where you were located; I doubt you're on the Moon (although, if you are, $390 is cheap :-D).

For other places to get a Pocket PC repaired, check the Service & Upgrade section of my Web site. Most of those places are in the U.S., but you could E-mail them to find out what it would cost and what shipping you'd have to pay.

It doesn't matter. The point is that he thinks it's too much, and I was giving him some service locations to check for better prices.

Qusai should have said both where he's located and what model of iPAQ he has. Without knowing that, we can only give general suggestions.

True. But my point was that what he feels is too much may in reality be a good price - he just does not like it. The clues to location were the placement of the money sign: 0000$ and the rest of us answered $0000 - and sending the iPaq to Europe for repair does not mean the Americas - and probably not Asia - most likely the Middle East or even Oceania...but what do I know? :wink: :?:

Based on the user name and the shipment to Europe, I'd guess the Middle East, too.

However, the amount could well be in U.S. dollars. He said that $390 (or 390$, if you prefer) was 65% of the cost of a new Pocket PC, making the new cost $600. That's the list price of an iPAQ 5550 in U.S. dollars.

If he has a model other than the 5550, then that's another issue. How about we wait to see if Qusai responds before engaging in further speculation? ;-)
