This can't be helped - that's a problem with the Windows Mobile operating system - the initialization of memory cards is delayed.
I see, thank you so much.

I don't know it's my psycho or what, but I do feel faster performance now with programs installed in the card, especially those involve big chunks of files like avantgo and dictionaries. Thanks for the guide, mem.

I've also move my internet cache folder to the storage card. Now can spare some spaces in the main memory.

Thanks.

Here's a link for a car-usb charger with the correct specs:

http://shop.brando.com.hk/car2usb2A.php

I've tried pretty much the same thing as you did. For me the 4.5V didn't work at all - not surprising given I'm using a Loox720, which has a pretty high current requirement. 6V does work, but generates a lot of heat at both charger and PDA. I suspect the regulator on the PDA had to work overtime to manage the higher voltage. I haven't used it more than a couple of times before noticing the heat problem, and gave up using it entirely afterwards. Now I'm using the original wall charger through a car inverter, which gives me 220-240V AC.

Hi hishamh, thanks for the information.

You got yours from brando? I'm wondering where can I get it in Malaysia. By the way, I reside in Malaysia as well. Selamat Hari Raya.

Happy Deeparaya to you too

If you're refering to the car charger I was originally using - no, I got that in Jln Pasar in KL. I don't have a car charger per se, as I said, I'm using a car inverter which converts the 12v-24v car cigarette lighter output into conventional 220V-240V AC. I can then use the wall charger to power the PDA. The charger still heats up a bit more than normal, but that's due to the varying voltage coming from the car battery. Still, I'm more confident with this setup that I'm getting the right voltage and amps, not to mention being able to charge my phone, laptop and external hard drive all at the same time.

I have been eyeing the Brando charger though, mainly for my wife's PDA. She wants to set up hers as an MP3 player in the car, though I'm also thinking of giving her GPS as well - otherwise I'm constantly getting calls for directions

Very nice hubby...

That must be very cool to have a GPS in the car. Wish to have one too, but no point of getting it coz I'm not city dweller and don't go KL often. Trafic here is as simple as counting my own fingers.

How much is one inverter that you are using?

Where can I get it?

I believe that it's selling for about RM130 to RM150 or so - try looking at the bigger stores in Low Yat 2nd floor. I know Sri Computers carries a couple of models in 100W and 150W IIRC. You might also need a multi-point 3-pin extension with a two pin plug if you want to run more than one device off the battery (not easy to find this one!).

Just some rules of thumb - don't leave the inverter attached to the cigarette socket when starting up the car. There's usually a power surge then, which can damage your equipment. I'm actually toying with the idea of a permanent attachment from the inverter to the battery, but I'll need to put some inline fuses before I'd risk that. Second, don't leave the inverter on when the car is switched off either - though it may not work, you don't want to run the risk of draining your car battery.

Good luck.
