I guess the upgrade isn't revolutionary, but it has some nice features. Read more on http://www.inges-pda.net/blogg.html. But I would really like to have an OS more optimized for my X-scale processor! It never hurts to speed up your PPC! Come on HP?!?

I know of what you speak. The same thing happened to the Toshiba e310, tho a lot of clammouring from Jason and other enthusiast site MVP's must certainly have moved them to produce EUU2 as well as EUU3.

Looks like we may have to do that again, Jason (et all). Is your armour still battle ready?

Not to be snippy; but don't count on it. Upgrades are done based on (in this case) HP's continued ability to make money from the install base (i.e. current ownders), as well as new customers...and that's the key.

Since the 1910 was recently discontinued in favor of the 1915 and the 2200 series, its doubtful that the numbers support the upgrade.

BUT, if you read my post directly above, a lot of b*tching to Toshiba changed their tune regarding e310 updates for EUU2 and EUU3. They were initially planning to publish NEITHER for the e310. A lot of people complained to Toshiba, and they published both updates.

We need to do this again for all of the 1910 owners!

Kind Regards,

The 1915 is exactly the same machine as 1910, just the European version, so the 1910/1915 has not been discontinued!

And as I wrote earlier, the 1915 was just released in Europe, so it's bad karma for HP if they don't provide some sort of 2003 upgrade...

The 2200 series is not a replacement for the 1900 series, and HP is said to be releasing a new 19xx this summer. There is a new iPaq released in Asia along the 1910/1915 lines, in the asian version 1920, which has the same specs, aside from 32 MB ROM(!) http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/q...11491_div.HTML.

come on hp!
seriously though, i'm not too concerned for a few reasons. for one thing, it's probably not a big difference from PPC 2002. plus i'll probably get a 2200.
on the other hand, i can't imagine that hp released the 1910 only 6 months ago and the 1915 just weeks ago in europe knowing that the devices wouldn't be upgradeable. for the upgrade, they could always leave more stuff out like they did for PPC 2002 on the 1910. things like pword and pexcel could easily be taken out of the ROM. plus if this new OS isn't much different than PPC 2002, it probably doesn't have a much larger footprint.

I sure hope the 1910 doesn't become obsolete. Maybe I should sell on eBay and get my $250 while I still can. On a totally different note, does anyone else think the black trim on the sides and top of the new iPAQ 19xx looks cheesy? I like the current silver trim better.

Like lurch already mentioned, PPC 2003 is most likely not going to be something revolutionary, so I expect that it won't leave PPC 2002 devices "obsolete." Obsolete implies that the device is so old that nothing will work on it, and that's it's almost to the point of uselessness. That's basically not true with the 1910 - it will still work very well as it does now.

My previous post might have been a little confusing, maybe this picture will clarify things a bit:

That's a picture of the 1930/40 from the FCC site, notice the black trim
