Default Performance with CF Inserted

Several changes occurred at once, so I'm not sure which (if any) have caused this problem, but I have been experiencing SIGNIFICANTLY slower performance on my 3630 whenever I have a CF card inserted.

I upgraded to 2002... didn't notice any problems.

Then I installed the Service Pack from Compaq and bought a new 128Mb CF (instead of the 64Mb I used before) and I started using Mazingo 3.2 (pointing to the Storage Card for its files) instead of Avantgo for all my websites.

Now, whenever I try to use any of the Pocket Office apps or Mazingo, the system takes a LOOONG time to load the application (like it's searching the card for something); sometimes it takes so long I do a soft-reset so I don't know if it's hung or I just wasn't patient enough (I've waited as long as 5 minutes).

Has anyone else noticed this behavior, or have any clues?

Thanks!

The root of the problem is that the applications are searching the storage card and getting hung up on something - try re-formatting the storage card and moving over a few files at a time. You may have a corrupt file...

Default Thanks, I'll try that

I did try reformatting it, but I copied my files all back at once...

I thought the problem had gone away, but it was quickly back. Probably, whatever file is corrupt wasn't access for a little while after reformatting... I have a hunch it might be something in the Mazingo folder, because now that I think about it, I didn't resync Mazingo for a while after reformatting...

Thanks!

Default performance w. cf

i had the same problem with a 3765, i even experienced the problem with the start menu. slow like something else is going on in the background. i hard reset it too several times! i thought it was the unit so i returned it for a replacemnt.

the mazingo fix didnt work. hard reset didnt work. i then even experienced the problem without any sleeves!

i installed the same software as u did too. the problem is eerily similar.

i was at a loss too

Bill & Co. over at Mazingo are really great about listening to users - try another format and see if you can track the problem back to Mazingo, then email their tech support people.

Default wasnt mazingo for me....

i did a hard reset and still had the issue. after the hard reset the unit was vanilla... no mazingo. still showed those symptoms.

my new unit works flawlessly, i have moved on.

On the general topic of using a CF Card with the iPaq...

Does anyone know of any resources that provide a guide to formatting and building the most efficient file structures for using a CF Card with ActiveSync and Avantgo?

The PocketPC Thoughts Site used to have some useful Tips (prior to the recent "Crash") but I haven't been able to locate an alternative source.

Any assistance for this newbie CF user would be greatly appreciated. :?
