Well, full length movies? You'll proably want DiVX format using Pocket Divx Player. You could use Windows Media Player's WMV format (ME and XP will come with a converter to WMV), but using DiVX files will keep you a bit more diverse. You'll probably want NTSB standards which is what, 24 fps I think @ 240 x 360 resolution.

You should make sure that you keep the aspect ration in relation to the film you're encoding.

Choose a target width as well and calculate the height as follows:

16:9 height = desired width * 9 / 16 --> for example 320 * 9 / 16 = 180 (for landscape)
4:3 height = desired width * 3 / 4 --> for example 320 * 3 / 4 = 240 (for landscape)
