Start (menu) | Settings | Connections | Network Adapters | Click on your Wireless adapter and make sure "Use server-assigned IP address" is checked.

Next would be | Start (menu) | Settings | Connections | Connections (icon) | And the center should be work Settings | tap modify... | Proxy Settings | The First box should be checked "This network connects to the internet" tap Ok | Set the top to Work Settings | the bottom to Work tap ok | X | do a soft reset, you should now be able to connect and activesync if you can't, on the pocket pc go to /windows and rub welcome at the screen calbration you should be ale to connect. If at this point you can not connect, you do not have an 802.11b connection.

I have checked and that is exactly what I have set on my unit at the moment. When I try to browse any site I get a "The page you are looking for cannot be found" error in Internet Explorer.

Here are my settings on the PC and on the IPAQ, maybe I'm still missing something here:

PC:
Dialup connection:
Sharing|Enable Internet Connection Sharing for this connection|X
Networking|Internet Protocol(TCP/IP)|X
Networking|File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Netwroks|X
Networking|Client for Microsoft Networks|X

Wireless connection:
General|Client for Microsoft Networks|X
General|File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Netwroks|X
General|Internet Protocol(TCP/IP)|X|IP Address 192.168.0.1|Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0|WINS|Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP|X

IPAQ 5450:
Settings|Connections|Network Adapters|Wireless|Use server-assigned IP
Settings|Connections|Connections|Work|Proxy|This network connects to the Internet|X
Settings|Connections|Connections|Work|Proxy|This network connects to the Internet|X
Settings|Connections|Connections|Work

Wireless profile|Use server-assigned IP address

ActiveSync|Tools|Options|Enable synchronization when cradled using|X|'USB Default
ActiveSync|Tools|Options|Include PC when synchronizing remotely and connect to|X|Desktop

I can ping my PC's wireless LAN's IP address.
I can ping my PC's dynamic IP address assigned by the dialup connection.
I can access my PC's drives using the NetUse utility.

What am I doing wrong?

If you try to open a page on the internet using the IP address, does it work? If it does double check your DNS settings. If not, check your default gateway settings...

If I run IIS on my desktop I can view my desktop's homepage using the IPAQ.

I have tried opening my ISP's home page using its IP address (the one that ping returns) but it comes up with the same error (although it does take a lot longer to display the error).

Do you have an example of a website with an IP address that I can access?

Cheers

Default Try this URL...

http://www.brighthand.com

It should also resolve to 66.240.133.115

If you can access via the IP address but not the alias its more than likely a DNS issue.

Have you downloaded and installed vxUtil and vxIPconfig?
Both will give you a lot of information about your network link...

Download and install vxUtil from Al's post above. Then run it on your PPC. Lookat the DNS entries, it should be 192.168.0.1 as should your Default Gateway, and DHCP server. Are they?

If your PC is offline (not connected to your ISP) and you attempt to connect to a web page will it go online and dial your isp?

Progress !

I can ping 66.240.133.115 using vxUtil
Pinging www.brighthand.com returns "Cannot find host www.brighthand.com"

I can access the page using http://66.240.133.115
Using http://www.brighthand.com returns "The page you are looking for cannot be found"

DNS issue isn't it.....!!

I ran the "Info" option on my IPAQ and the info returned for the Wireless adapter was:

IP address: 192.168.0.114
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Primary DNS: 192.168.0.1
DHCP server: 192.168.0.1

I did not enable "Dial on Demand" in the settings for "Internet Sharing" on my PC's dialup connection.

I am not running any thru a proxy server on my PC.

It feels pretty close guys....whats the next step?
