Default HX4705, Windows Mobile 5.0, CompactFlash issues!

Hi All:

I am new to the forum and have some questions. I just upgraded my HX4705 to Windows Mobile 5.0. Now whenever I suspend the device for over, lets say 30 minutes, it has problems reading the CompactFlash card. It may have the same problems with the SecureDigital card it is just I have stuff I use more often on the CompactFlash card and this is where I first noticed it. I generally experience one of four scenarios:

1) It can only read the and display the root level directories in file explorer.
2) The rool level directories are read and displayed correctly, but most if not all files have garbage for their names.
3) All directories and files look named correctly, but I get errors opening them, or I see garbage if they do open.
4) Everything seems OK.

Further, I did not have these problems with 2003SE, and I am using a Lexar 4X 1GB CompactFlash card. My questions to forum members is: Have you ever had or are you seeing similar issues? If so what operating system are you using? Were you able to solve this issue and if so how?

Thanks in advance for any reply,
Eric

P.S. I have been in touch with iPaq support and they gave me the standard advice, hard reset or reinstall Windows Mobile 5.0, then reinstall all your software. This would be a lot of work if there are issues with Windows Mobile 5.0 for the HX4700 series.

I haven't experienced any of these issues with my newly upgraded hx4700 over the past 4 days. I have a no-name Dane-Elec 256 MB CF card, and a PNY 256 MB SD card, SanDisk 512 MB SD card, and a Dane-Elec 256 MB SD card. I can't test my larger 1 GB CF card because it's been on the fritz for a few months :|

My advice would be to bite the bullet and re-install WM5 now, before you get too many things installed on your new device. If you STILL have the problem, you can downgrade back to WM2003SE.

I'm none too thrilled about the issues that consumers are having with their newly upgraded hx4700s; my iPAQ is slower on responses to screen taps at times, but browses the internet over my Cingular 2125 faster... somehow. Overall, I'm slightly pleased with the upgrade, but that's because I've had no negative issues besides the screen lag. Still holding off on final judgement for a while though, to give it time to exhibit its foibles.

I have same experience that the device cannot display all sub-folders in the 2gb Hitachi microdrive until I soft reset the device. After installing most softwares into the mircodrive, the device seems react faster. I am not regret having the upgrade but I have read a lot of negative comments in various forums. Time can prove WM5 is better than previous OS for mobile pc.

I too had these issues until my Hitachi Microdrive just died. This is the second microdrive failure that I know of in an upgraded 4700. Could just be coincidence I suppose. Am now using a 1GB Viking brand CF card with no problems.
Of course when I say no problems I mean with the CF card. I have LOTS of problems with the upgrade!
I am waiting to see if Skyscape will allow me to revert to my 2003SE device ID, then i'm going back.
