Hello,

I have an iPAQ 3635 which I have connected via the USB port to my COMPAQ laptop. The iPAQ is on the cradle which has the USB to the computer.

Whenever I touch certain areas of the IPAQ (when it is on the cradle and connected to the computer) I get an electric shock of a mild magnitude, but enough to cause a jerk.

I was wondering if any experts out there had some input into this.

Could it be the weather? Mine only does this during the winter. The cold coming from the windows and the heat from the house cause a lot of static.

Hi,

I could surely be static....Is there any solution to reducing/eliminating static. If so, maybe I could try the solution for a while and then see if the problem dissapears.

How about touching something conductive, like some metal on your desk or chair or whatever, to discharge any static before touching your ipaq?

I get this all the time. I always have to touch something metal to discharge myself.

Or you could increase the humidity in the area. That will prevent static charges from accumulating. That's why you have static in the winter when the air is very dry and not in the summer when the air is more humid.

man this is a serious problem which can cause problems with your device. this tiny ppcs are so complicated and so 'intensive' and this much electricity (so much that can shock you) may make your device useless!

While not impossible, it is doubtful. I periodically get discharges between my hand and the PDA when I reach for it on the cradle. The cradle and therefore the PDA is grounded via the AC power to the UPS plug and the wall, and via the USB connection to the PC, the UPS and the wall. Perfectly safe.

Depends what part of thePDA you touch. If your touching the plastic first you should be ok. But what you should do is go to Staples or an office supply store and by an anti-static mat to put under your computer station. Then charge your iPAQ there and you should be fine, no more shocking.

I'm having a major problem with static at the moment. It isn't perfectly safe, I'd like to say, since I recently zapped my 2210 and it hard reset itself.
