Does anybody know if there are any other applications that can access the Loox camera, other than the app in ROM?
Alternatively, does anyone have any information on whether the authors of the bundled "Camera" application have wriiten any updates?

Not yet. Microsoft Portrait doesn't support the PL720 as yet, for example.

The only alternative is to tweak the settings, and it can get to look quite good indeed. Other than that, buy an external camera in the form of cf camera
