Default 5450 DIE AGAIN

Gosh... my 5450 died. This is my 2nd one...

Anyone has been using USB Cable for h38/39xx on 5450? I suspect if that would be the cause of my units died....

I don't know if the USB is the cause or not, but I do know that I can no longer connect to my PC via the USB cable. It is completely non-responsive. Hmmm . . . .

Have you guys tried turning off USB charging? I've heard that it causes problems...

Or William, you could just be very unlucky. What happens? Nothing? You've tried the hard reset, battery remove, etc?

I actually thought of the USB charging issue and made sure to disable that function, but I still can't use the USB connection. My next move is to see if the cable itself is faulty. Of course, it could be the piece of !@#$ desktops that we have in the office

Default I tried everything

Tried Soft Hard Reset, battery removal, no luck
In Service already.... I think I will buy one more cradle set and stay away from the USB Cable for now...

BTW, the cable works on connect and charge... its just far less stable then the cradle connection

FROM HP:
Your iPAQ Pocket PC h5400 Series has a built in safety feature to protect the battery from over- discharge. This feature is necessary in case the iPAQ is left without A/C power for an extended period of time with the battery installed. When the iPAQ h5400 battery depletes to a critically low state, the iPAQ will not power-on nor will it visually indicate it is receiving a charge until the battery is charged for a specific amount of time. Your battery will not become damaged when this situation occurs and no performance loss will be experienced.

When the main battery depletes to less than aprox 20%(?) or lower, the backup battery 'failsafe mode' activates and prevents the unit from turning on until recharged and soft reset(ed). This feature is badly documented which would explain why so many people were getting frustrated with thier iPaqs, hence the reason why the documents came out late. Also the 'BETA' battery patch HP released attempts to address the very problem you describe.

FROM HP: 'RESOLUTION'
[b]Connect your iPAQ Pocket PC h5400 Series to A/C power and wait a period of 5 minutes (*see note below).
After a sufficient amount of time has elapsed (with A/C power connected), perform a Normal Reset.
The device will power-on and you may follow the instructions to set-up the iPAQ Pocket PC.
Allow the battery to fully charge before using the iPAQ Pocket PC.

Is your unit completely dead or you just can't charge or sync?

BTW, if the unit goes in that 'failsafe mode', you cannot recover it using the USB cable, I think you must connect to A/C... and I don't think 5 min is enough, mine needed good 2-3 hours of charging before you could turn it on.
