My beloved 4150 is dying. Whenever I soft reset, 2/3 of the screen is black...and it is increasing. It does eventually boot up, but the power property doesn't even show the % of main battery..and the blinking red light which indiactes charging no longer comes on. :cry:

So, this weekend, I will buy a replacement. My question is what model to replace it with? I love the form factor of the 4150 and Wi-Fi is a must.

Shouldn't you at least see what the problem is first and find out how much it is to fix it, before buying a new PPC? I mean, PPC ain't exactly the cheapest thing in the world. 8O

try getting a replacement battery first.. I got a offical one from me local computer store for 34 dollers

I agree with the others in saying that you should see if it can be fixed first, before shelling out a wad of cash to get a new one.

However, if form factor is a big thing for you, the closest thing you'll find in the market at the moment resembling the h1940/h4150 style is Dell's Axim X50 or X50v. Most of HP's current offerings are more rectangular shaped (except for the hx2000 series which is a bit more rounded).

Unfortunately, fixing a PocketPC is rarely that much cheaper than a new one. You can always try, but you'll probably get quoted something like $300 to fix it.

Just to humor me. Take your battery out of the unit tonight before you go to bed. Tomorrow when you get home from work, put it back. Don't know if you have even tried a hard reset yet, but I have done so and somtimes residual stuff actually stays. Let it settle out completely, and see what happens when you fire it back up.

it is very hard to find a replacement for 4150, especially if form factor is important for you.

You could also look on eBay for another 4150 if you don't want to upgrade/change to a new unit. The 4150 was truely exceptional in its size, design and specs. I have seen a fair few Brand New h4150s here on Ebay Australia, so there should be some on the US eBay.
