Default Palm releases Treo 700W Update

Here is the link to the update on Palm's site:

http://www.palm.com/us/support/downl...r/verizon.html

I would strongly advise checking out the thread regarding the update on Treocentral:

http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...d.php?t=112267

Some people have been having problems with the updates, so read everything carefully. Some people have suggested doing a hard reset before the update to make sure you don't end up with a brick. Others have reported no problems.

For people using Good software....Good just release 4.8 which offers full support for the 700W, but you should do the Palm update before you install the new Good client.

Good luck to all...I am going to try this tonight. I'll let you know how it goes.

Send a message via AIM to jkcofield Send a message via MSN to jkcofield

I just did the install this morning, and have to say it went without a hitch.

First, the good stuff so far:

1. It does seem a lot better at handling memory. No numbers to provide, just an opinion.
2. I was sitting here working (no really, I was) and got a new mail alert. I looked down and it had downloaded messages from my msn.com account. I had always done that manually and then, it sometimes wasn't all that reliable. I sent a couple of emails to myself just to see if it was an anomoly, and sure enough, it works like a champ now.

Now, the bad stuff:

1. Still doesn't wash my clothes.
2. Not sure if the "Winning Lotto" number feature is working.

Seriously, I haven't seen any "bad" stuff yet. However, the day is still young.

Default Update

I have to agree with Jeff, this update was definitely a step in the right direction. I had actually given up hope on the 700 and switched to an XV6700 for @ a few days. That device, unfortunately, does not come close to the functionality (general ease of use such as phone, one-handed operation etc etc) that the 700 boasts so when I saw the news that AKU2 had been released I decided to give the 700 another chance and performed the update last night.

There does seem to be some improvement in the way memory is now handled. The annoying lag times waiting for an application to execute or simply while navigating the device seems to have shortened considerably, unfortunately I don't have any firm numbers to confirm that either, but try for yourselves and see. I have now officially moved back into my Treo and can't wait for the next generation of these devices to hit the market. All I'm asking for is a 320X320 screen and 128X128 program/storage memory.....is that so much to ask  ?

Well...the update went off without a hitch. The install took only about 25 minutes. Only 48 files in the temp directory, so cleanup went fine.

Initial memory change: 9.88mb in use and 15mb free. What a huge improvement from a pre update restart of pretty much the reverse.

Seems to be a little zippier. I am going to do some more testing, but things looks good far.

I am considering not doing the update. I really don't want to go through all that reactivation and stuff again. But, I have a Tom-Tom Go, and it won't connect to the bluetooth on my Treo, although it will connect with other phones. Will this update help that, do you think? I really don't think the update addresses bluetooth issues, does it?
Thanks for any information you can give me.

It's gone - must be some issues that need fixing.

NO reloading necessary. All data & files undisturbed. A couple of settings needed tweaking but that was all.

But you will have to reactivate, won't you? The web site says so. And what about Bluetooth? Is it in any way affected?
Thanks

Bluetooth works with my headset, but not my Tom-Tom. I was hoping bluetooth had been upgraded somehow.
