Default SMS ID problems

I've got an interesting problem:

When my wife emails my phone (sending an SMS message from her email account) the phone is attaching the wrong name to the message.

Say for example my wife's name was Jane Doe and her email address was janedoe@nowhere.com. The only place that email address appears is under Jane Doe in my contact list, BUT when I receive her email message it comes up under a different name from my contact list.

Jane Doe emails me but my phone tells me it's from John Doe instead.

I tried to just delete the name that was coming up from my contact list but then the phone decided to bring up another name from my contact list.

Jane Doe was coming up as John Doe, now John Doe is no longer in my contact list so now Jane Doe is coming up as Phil Doe.

I also tried to just assign Jane's email address to the name from my contact list that was appearing and then the phone decided to bring in another name.

Jane Doe was coming up as John Doe, now John Doe is no longer in my contact list so now Jane Doe is coming up as Phil Doe. I assigned janedoe@nowhere.com to Phil Doe and now the messages come up as Mike Doe.

I gave up after that. I should mention that I've received SMS messages using SMS and email from 4 other people and all of those came up correctly.

This hasn't ever happened in 2002, just 2003 which is what I'm running now. Any ideas?

First, try looking in both contacts on the phone. Go to the contact and click "Edit" See if either has anything in either that is incorrect.

If there is, go to Outlook (or whatever PIM you are using) and check the entire record. Remove any incorrect information and sync with the i600.

I have had problems where my sync program adds parts of one databases record to another record. This might be what is happening. I have 2,500 contacts in Outlook, and when this happened, I spent hours editing it to straighten out the problem.

The good news, is that I have it fixed now.

Good luck.
