Default Pop Gmail disappearing out of inbox

I can't be the only one to have this problem, but I'm getting desperate as i search the web.

I have set up Gmail as a pop account on my Cingular 8125 using Windows Mobile 5. I also have a yahoo pop account that works flawlessly. But on my gmail account, emails occasionally disappear out of the inbox. they are not in the deleted items or any other folder. Sometimes I'll even get a notification of a new gmail message, and when i "view" it, all i have is an empty inbox. When i double check www.gmail.com, there is the phantom message i got the notification for!

Please, someone, help. I'm pulling out my little remaining hair.

As the 8125 is a Pocket PC phone device, you might want to have a look at www.pocketpcthoughts.com

I have not seen this behavior in my own 8125.

Isn't there some setting in Gmail to tell it that you're going to use POP and how it should handle that?

Yes there is, by default once your mails are viewed on your device they are archived to the all mails folder in gmail by default, you need to change the settings and all should be fine.

Same thing happens to me whether or not I have my gmail account set up to archive or save all. The closest answer I have gotten from a tmobile rep is that the device might delete my emails when my memory gets low. I don't think thats the anwer though.

Default Disappearing Gmail

After looking and searching, (and not The Furnished Manual). The answer even though not simple made sense. The emails are being archived and removed from devices. To stop this I did the following, I am using WM 6 on a Q9h.
  1. Have all messages downloaded, (bodies and attachments are a personal preference. The first time this is done take some time but necessary.
  2. Go into Gmail account on device.
  3. Select Menu->Folders->Show All Folders enter
  4. Select Menu->Folders->Manage Folders
  5. Touch all folders and the ones that have "Sync" showing for the right soft button press it.
  6. Once all of your folders have been sync selected press done.
  7. Select Inbox just to get back to main gmail menu.
  8. Select Menu->Send/Receive go get coffee.
After this is done the first time it will go quicker during subsequent times. If you select anything other than download all you are actually filtering to receive only those emails that meet the criteria and the other emails are removed from your device. Bummer! Gmail did this for the IMAP function, which, by the way is my option of choice just for the convenience of moving and modifying on the go, offline, and the it is synced online during send/receive.

Hopes this helps.
Chuck
