The Axim X30 is a QVGA device. If memory is correct, the X50V is VGA - ?? This COULD be a factor in satisfaction, as moving from QVGA on the Axim to VGA on the Fuze gives the latter a considerable advantage in resolution, which goes a long way towards making up for the sheer size difference; and - as Farmer Ted pointed out - the Colors are also much better on the Fuze.
For READING purposes, am very happy with the Fuze - you can use a smaller font, and even on the smaller screen it will be more legible than on the Axim.
For example, working in
PhatNotes, a "Tahoma 10" font can be "zoomed" to 75% & still be easily read on both devices - but the text on the Fuze
is CLEARER, even though it is physically smaller than text is using the same setting on the Axim.
However, if we Zoom each device to
50%, the Note on the Axim can be read only with great difficulty - in essence, you are Guessing at words - whereas text on the Fuze remains remarkably sharp. Don't know that I would really want to spend HOURS looking at 50% text, but a younger person probably could, and it is certainly a faster way to Scan through a longer document.
But the SMALLER Physical screen size of the Fuze DOES seem to be a disadvantage when it comes to "direct screen input." Having a smaller physical area makes it more difficult to hit the correct "key" on a software keypad, or to form a series of letters if using Graffiti-type input - or to manipulate the objects in touch-screen based game (as opposed to a control-pad based game).
Have been using FITALY for text input for some years now (back to Handspring Visor), and - thus far - have not been able to reach nearly the same speed / competence with it on the Fuze as achieved on the earlier devices. I do not (yet...) consider this a "lost cause" because we have been too busy to permit any Exercise Time on the Fuze - but in the end it is simply easier to hit a Large(r) box than it is to hit a Small(er) box, and this is ESPECIALLY true for the Half Cell keys!
It also appears "true" that the touch screen on the Fuze is somewhat Less Sensitive than many other devices, especially near the edges. This is certainly a true statement as compared to my Axim. Note, though, that there is a Registry setting that can be changed to improve screen response - simply have not yet found time to attempt it.
This small physical input area seems likely to impact game playing as well. Have yet to ADD any games to the Fuze, but have played Solitaire once or twice, and Jawbreaker several time: Jawbreaker LOOKS nice on the Fuze, but find Game Play to be easier on the Axim: larger size makes up for lowered resolution & poorer color display.
Although have not tried them on the Fuze yet, would imagine that games like Tantric or Quartz would be significantly more difficult on the Fuze - but this is pure speculation at the current time.
Then again, as someone pointed out, would really NOT like having to hold a device the size of the Axim up to my ears in order to talk on the phone. (Sure, use bluetooth earphone a lot of the day, but there are times when you end up Having to use the Fuze As A HANDset....)
As always, YMMV....
