Silicon density increases as the manufacturing processes improve. It's a variation on the usual miniaturization of technology.

This is a typical example of misinformation that spreads around.

From what Ican tell it comes from an article from the Taiwan site Digital Times (if Iremember right) that showed a table with a wrong figure on it: they were comparing a newer card technology with SD, miniSD and other formats; they copied/pasted the data from one line to the other, displaying the wrong data for the max technology limits for SD as being the same as miniSD.

This new card technology was presented here with the wrong data being reported as well.

After careful check, from the official SD Association site, I noticed that miniSD maximum technology limits is 4 GB, while the same for SD is 32 GB.

I informed both Digital Times and Iposted the information here on the relevant thread. However the first post presenting thenew card technology was not corrected and only my subsequent post, a page or more later, reported the corrected figures. Digital Times corrected the data on their site chart.

To summerize, anybody reading this wrong information here and anywhere on numerous other sites that reported the wrong data still believe today those wrong figures.

I know PPC's don't typically take full advantage of the top speeds of the fastest SD (and CF) cards, but...? Dunno, maybe it's just wishful thinking.
