I currently have 6gb of storage, 4gb cf and 2gb sd, and I can tell you, it's not enough!!!

You can always find something to put on it, I have 2.5gb for wikipedia and 1 movie coded in such a way that it takes 1gb plus all the other stuff. All told I have about 400mb left.

you can get a 8gb cf for $650, saw it as low as $629.

I'd use a 4Gb SD card with one of the many super-mini flash based MP3 players out there. They're usually pretty rugged, have great battery life, smaller than an iPod Mini, and most of them have an SD card slot. Outstanding.

THIS is an awesome news, although the price is high and within 3-6 monts of its release it will drop to half price or even less, but i know myself i will pay the full price and get it as soon as its out there

But i wonder if it will be compateble with my Imate Jam :? , Any thoughts??

Regards,
Sarwat

For those of us who don't pretend to understand how all of this SD card technology works, can somebody explain just HOW the technology is changing?

What makes a 4GB card possible today and not possible last year?

Agreed. I have the same basic setup and could already use more room. I use the 4gb cf card for MP3s with a little space leftover for backups - which is roughly equivalent to the 1st generation iPOD minis. Then I use the 2gb sd card for 2 movies (I encode movies to be about 1gb each so they're fairly high bitrate). If I had an 8gb cf card or a 4gb sd card I could fit more mp3s and not have to rotate stock as often (get tired of listening to the same music after awhile).

I've had my eye on the 8gb CF card for a while, but I'm waiting for the price to drop to $600 delivered or less.

With a 5800mAh extended battery, watching 2 movies or listening to many hours of music is not a problem on those long journeys.

you are right I would really like that in my ppc and I could use the cf slot for gsm, fm radio, gsm(well now they have built in gps and gsm) but I would have to wait until the price comes down.

I recently bought three of the 2GB SanDisk 60x SD cards (to replace the three 1GB 60x SD cards and a couple of 512MB ones I was using, which are now being put to secondary uses).

A 4GB SD card would be so awesome...

You sound upset. You shouldn't torment yourself this way. You are getting very sleepy. You should rid yourself of this curse. Your eyelids are growing heavy. Send your memory cards to me. 0X

Okay, here's a question: is SD 1.0 vs SD 1.1 a difference in hardware, software, firmware, or some combination of these? If it's just software/firmware, wouldn't it be (hypothetically) possible to upgrade a PPC's drivers/firmware from 1.0 to 1.1? I know PPC's don't typically take full advantage of the top speeds of the fastest SD (and CF) cards, but...? Dunno, maybe it's just wishful thinking.
