I'd like to see a HTC Universal killer - that is, a device with a VGA screen and with much better capabilities (faster CPU, more RAM, real USB host, hardware buttons, preferably no silly thumbboard, EDGE support, 2700g) than the Universal.
The Universal still stands alone.
Unfortunatley, it only stands alone in Europe and a few other select countries around the world Triband only hurts it's use in the US, especially on Cingular. Even T-Mobile is adding 850MHZ towers to its 1900MHZ system and of course its the 850 that the Universal is missing. Also, the Universal's UTMS is not frequency compatible with the one Cingular is testing in the US. And because it has no EDGE, it only works on slow GPRS in the US.
The Universal is close as soimeone said. Just add quad band, support for EDGE and both 1800 and 2100MHZ UTMS frquencies and then it's a "true" world device, US included. Also, "g" wireless and BT 2.0 could complete the "Universal II" update
Another good CDMA based phone is the HTC 6700 and the Samsung I730. Great phone form factor, all the features you would want but missing VGA screens. And, of course, the imfamous missing camera from the I730.

Couple of things I'd like to see on the Universal, beyond what has been listed, is a small external screen, like most 'clamshell' phones, and buttons that actually work when the device is closed. A CF slot would actually be nice IMHO. Throw a big microdrive or CF card in there and it would make a fair little media device. Yea a little shy for gamers, but I not one, so heck with 'em.

Don't get me wrong; I think there's a lot of room for improvement on the Universal (my ideal hardware would be the superset of all mentioned suggestions). But despite its shortcomings, it is very usable... even in the US. I don't have mine yet, but as soon as I see one for around $600 I am snapping it up and switching to T-Mobile so I can use it. Complete with spotty coverage, slow-as-molasses GPRS, and the eventual rollout of incompatible UMTS.

Ummm, and then it would cost so much that everyone would laugh and say "these crazy companies that think we'll pay $1000 for a Pocket PC when I can get a nice laptop for less!".
EDGE and quad-band, on the other hand, are surprising omissions.
Well it;s a nice device but there are 2 things - Price point - Fujitsu is going to be high. and Availblity - there is no way we are going to see any carriers in the USA pick this thing up.
As for an ipaq killer? Better form factor and features for sure but back to my two points above.
Treo - love mine... that 700w is great. Little light on some of the features - wifi in particular, but the form factor and ease of use (especially true one hand operation) is flippin' great!
Also why would the FS T800 be an Ipaq killer, I would say that at least based on specs this is a killer of any small GSM Phone Edition, including Treo and Wizard.
Both have thumb-boards, 416MHz processors, GPS, and 64MB RAM. However, the T800 series takes it to the next level with 802.11g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, an SDIO/SD/MMC slot (over the hw6900's miniSD), and UMTS support.
My bad, I wanted to say why would be "just" an Ipaq killer...
