Won't help - if you look carefully, the drivers and registry entries are already present in WM5, and has been since Pocket PC 2002. To have USB host functionality (especially USB 2.0 as it is on this phone), you need hardware support implemented as well.

It has 3G (UMTS), that's quite a bit faster than EDGE. It's also more widespread in Europe...

I know... But in Finland EDGE is widely available. I can get EDGE connection speeds even at my summer cottage. However 3G is catching up quite nicely but it's still only available in largest cities...

Default Australian Availability/ Windows mobile 5 Phone edition??

Good work darius!

Is there any word on whether this will be released in Australia? If not, anyone got any good suggestions for getting one sent here?

This is as close to ideal as I've seen in a smartphone.

One thing - when it says WM5 phone edition on their specs, this isn't the crappy version of WM5 running on the O2 and orange candy bar phones is it? If so, this WILL run all Windows mobile programs, right?

As for screen size and compatibility: Expect software to start becoming compatible with 240 x 240 very soon. There are notable handhelds with this size screen now - the palm treo 700w, LOOX T8xx series, and the HP HW series. Whilst MS should have really gone with 320 x 320 (then the 320 x 240 stuff would actually run!), with the main players in town all with 240 x 240 handhelds, developers will have no choice but to start supporting this resolution or lose sales.

I predict Dell will be next to release a smartphone, probably with this reso screen as well!

10 to 1 it won't be available outside of Europe. The best bet I'd guess is ordering from www.clove.co.uk - great service, and they've always carried the Loox.

This will run the full WM5, not the smartphone version.

Like hishamh mentioned, it runs the Pocket PC version of Windows Mobile, not the Smartphone version. It won't necessarily run all Windows Mobile programs, but it will run those designed for Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PCs. And, rest assured, most of today's applications have already been updated to support Windows Mobile 5.0.

If you carry a Samsonite! The Jasjar is really BIG!
